Country Overview
Vietnam is a key player in Southeast Asia’s education market, reflecting its deep cultural emphasis on learning and its rapid economic development. As the country strides towards a globalised economy, there is a growing need for a skilled workforce. This has driven an increased focus on education, with Vietnam investing heavily in its educational infrastructure and quality.
With one of the fastest-growing economies in Southeast Asia, Vietnam’s expanding middle class is increasingly able to invest in international education. The Vietnamese government allocates a significant portion of its GDP to education, among the highest rates in the region, to enhance educational quality and infrastructure. The country is home to approximately 26,000 schools, 170 public universities, and over 60 private universities, serving more than 28 million students across various educational levels.
Vietnamese students are increasingly pursuing higher education abroad, with around 190,000 studying overseas recently. The popular destinations include the United States, Japan, Korea, Australia, and Canada. There is also growing interest in affordable programmes in Northern and Central Europe, with a notable proportion of students pursuing postgraduate degrees.
At our education fairs in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, we observe a slightly higher interest in Master’s programmes (about 40-45%) compared to Bachelor’s programmes (about 35-40%). The specific interest in programmes varies based on the representation of those programmes at the fair, as we promote each participant individually.
